St Johns Wort

Hypericum perforatum

This shrubby perennial with yellow flowers grows to 1-1/2 feet tall and produces yellow flowers in clusters at the axils. In use since biblical times, the herb is thought to be named after St. John the Baptist. While it has been used for kidney and pulmonary problems, the most common use is a mood enhancer to combat anxiety and depression.   100 seeds

Planting

Perennial, zone 3-9

Germination:  14-30 days

Seed Planting Depth: on surface, lightly press in

Starting Indoors/Outdoors:  Start indoors 6-8 weeks before last frost. Provide 70-75 degree soil temperatures.Transplant 8-10" apart. Sow outdoors in the spring or in the fall, a few seeds 1-2", thin to 8-10" apart. 

Light Needs:  Full sun to part shade

Soil Needs: Average to sandy and well drained
